Eagle Island South Seaward terrace, killed

Description
In this area in shallow water off the south of Eagle Island, the great majority of corals were dead in 2015. The area is fairly near that in which a plague of Crown of Thorns was seen in 2012, so this starfish may have been the cause here too when the starfish moved on southwards. Until or unless corals can re-establish, this section of reef will show more erosion than accretion. The area is only a few kilometres away from many others of healthy reef from which coral larvae may arrive.
