- **Taxonomic list for cryptogamic species**This taxonomic list provides in the following sequence (1) some indication of frequency of occurrence (for lichens & bryophytes only); (2) preferred substrata; (3) distribution in the Chagos Archipelago (according to the abbreviations given under 'Locations Investigated' above); and (4) world distribution where known. Specimens of all the taxa recorded by the author are in Herb.Seaward, and in the case of collections made by U.Gregory in Herb.E; duplicates of some material collected by the author have been deposited in Herb. Aptroot, Ekman, BM, E, MO and OXF. (N.B. The name Tournefortia is used in the following; this is commonly referred to as Argusia.)
