The Chagos Archipelago: an introduction


A general introduction to the Chagos Archipelago providing an overview to the geological, geographical and physical background. The climate, tides, and nutrient concentration of the region are discussed. An introduction to the reef Ecology of the Chagos is given covering shallow areas and biological patterns on the reef slope. The effects of climate change and warming are also discussed. An introduction to island ecology is provided. Human influences on the Archipelago, such as groos impacts, trace metals, organic contaminants, and overfishing are briefly discusseed along with conservation needs.
